Brilliant article! I know of someone selling newsletter subscriptions online and he says that including a free premium (bonus) is a must. No free premium-no sales! The topic of "what is the right bonus?" is a good one, but I think there's some flexibility in that. I remember the bonuses that "Sports Illustrated" offered with their magazine (like a football) and maybe the variety of bonuses is perhaps larger than what one would think. The newsletter subscription guy offers a free T-shirt (themed with the topic of the newsletter in mind).

That's probably good advice for me, actually! I don't have a bonus for signing up for a premium subscription to this newsletter. What could I offer? Would it work on DR marketers? Interesting!

I know of one person who has a copywriting themed newsletter (and offers courses). The person offers a couple laminated sheets of copywriting tips. These are a physical product, and the person charges a shipping fee, but this could of course be a digitally delivered product. You've offered many tips which could be organized into premium. You also have access to the "history of DRTV" which would allow for some kind of list of products or supplies that would hold interest. You also have access/knowledge of a great number of DRTV commercials–Perhaps the premium being a link to your top 10 best/10 worst short-form spots all-time. Finally, the premium could be something like "Jordan Pine's SOP on how to test a new product on DRTV".
